Quinteros, Ecuador’s new head coach, aims at making the team “very competitive”

Ecuador's new head coach, Gustavo Quinteros, said on Tuesday that his goal is to integrate a "very competitive" team to play at Chile's Copa America and aims to qualify for the 2018 World Cup in Russia.

Ecuador's new head coach, Gustavo Quinteros, said on Tuesday that his goal is to integrate a "very competitive" team to play at Chile's Copa America and aims to qualify for the 2018 World Cup in Russia.

"All of these goals motivates us to work better and better, to be better professionals and be able to form a very competitive team," said Quinteros after being presented by the Ecuadorian Football Federation (FEF) as the strategist for the National Team.

He added, "we are very proud to have this opportunity, the opportunity to lead a team that has great challenges, and excites all of us".

The head coach, who received the team's yellow jersey during a ceremony held at the headquarters of the FEF in the port of Guayaquil (southwest), will take office next March, so that he can continue leading Club Emelec, with whom he has been a champion in 2013 and 2014 in Ecuador.

Quinteros is an Argentine who has been naturalized in Bolivia, and coached their national team between 2010 and 2012, leading to his selection with Ecuador.

Ecuador is already scheduled to play a friendly game with Mexico, on March 28th in Los Angeles, U.S.A, and three days later in New York, face Argentina.  They will follow their preparation games in Panama where they will play against the local team on June 4th and will play a return game on June 7th in Guayaquil.  These will be very good opportunities for the new head coach.

Ecuador will play in the 2015 Copa America Tournament as part of the A Group, along with Chile, Mexico and Bolivia.
