Argentina won Tuesday night 2-0 over Bolivia with authority and moments of inspiration from Lionel Messi to break an ultra-defensive scheme in the sixth round of South American qualifying. The match was played at the Mario Kempes stadium in Córdoba before some 55,000 people.
The goals were scored by Gabriel Mercado after 20 minutes and Messi (30) from a penalty kick on a dubious foul called by Venezuelan referee Jesus Valenzuela.
The fans enjoyed the result and the show, happy to see Messi and company in Cordoba. Argentine jumped to third place in the standings with 11 points, behind Uruguay and Ecuador with 13.
Messi scored his 50th goal for the national team. The top scorer in history is Gabriel Batistuta with 56 goals.
