The players were "fantastic" and deserve "all the praise", said Colombia coach Jose Pekerman, after the 3-1 qualifying win against Ecuador in Barranquilla.
"The players deserve praise," said Pekerman who recalled that the rival "was an Ecuador who won six points away (against Argentina and Venezuela)."
"We are enjoying rising in the table," said the coach.
For Pekerman the result against Ecuador "could have been bigger", but admitted the team lacked effectiveness in their chances in front of goal.
He said that competition is very even and Colombia has had many problems because it has changed many players.
"I am very happy with the performance of all. We are growing game by game," he said.
"I think we played our plan and the players performed very well, not so much in scoring goals but in the build up and that's where we beat Ecuador," said the Argentine strategist of 66 years.
The Colombian team got all six points available in these two rounds, having defeated Bolivia 3-2 last Thursday in La Paz. The team sits on 10 points in the standings, while Ecuador remained with 13 points.
