The tournament is organized by the Ecuadorian Football Federation with the support of the Municipality of Portoviejo and endorsement of CONMEBOL and will be played from August 23 to 30 at the Sports Complex of California, a stadium with capacity for 5,000 spectators.
Teams participating in the tournament are from the nine national associations affiliated with CONMEBOL:
Argentina – Brazil – Ecuador – Paraguay – Uruguay – Colombia - Peru- Chile and Venezuela.
The 9 participating teams will be divided into 2 groups: A and B.
Group A will have 5 teams and group B will have 4 teams, distributed in a draw of 2 teams according to the final positions of the last Copa America played in Buenos Aires, Argentina and in accordance with current regulations approved in the city of Gramado - Brazil in April 2012.
The groups were established as follows:
GROUP A: ECUADOR – ARGENTINA – PARAGUAY – PERU – CHILE
GROUP B: BRAZIL – COLOMBIA – URUGUAY - VENEZUELA
Qualifying stage: Each group will play round-robin with the first two teams that have earned the most points in each group qualifying to the semifinals.
In case of a draw in points between two or more teams in scoring for classification the following criteria will be applies successively:
a- Goal difference
b- Most goals scored
c- Winner of the head to head encounter in case of 2 teams
d- Semifinal Stage Draw
In the semifinal the top team of Group A will play the second team of Group B and similarly the second of Group A will play the first of Group B.
Also matches will be played to determine 5th to 9th place.
