Copa Sudamericana: Santa Fe and Huracán in the moment of truth

Independiente Santa Fe, of Colombia, and Huracán, of Argentina, play for the Copa Sudamericana title on Wednesday in Bogota.

The first leg match played in Buenos Aires ended in a 0-0 draw.

 

Santa Fe - Huracán

The only official international precedent was the first leg in Buenos Aires last Wednesday that ended 0-0.

Santa Fe

An excellent home record at the Copa Sudamericana over 12 games (7-4-1), scoring 18 goals and only conceding 6.

Have gone three straight at home without a loss. The last defeat (the only one) occurred on September 16 against Nacional 1-0, but Santa Fe moved on having won the first leg 2-0.

They have played 53 games at home in Conmebol competitions with a record of 31-15- 7. In the last 30 matches in that condition they only lost 2: the match against Nacional and against Atletico Mineiro 1-0 in the Copa Libertadores this year.

In Conmebol tournaments have hosted Argentine teams 9 times (3-4-2). They have a five game winning streak. The last time they lost was against Independiente in the 1972 Copa Libertadores 4-2 (Victor Campaz, Jose Cruz - Agustín Balbuena 2, Alejandro Semenewicz, Dante Mircoli).

Huracán

Is unbeaten in four away games played at the Copa Sudamericana (all this year):

Tigre 5-2 (Lucas Wilchez, Carlos Luna – Mauro Bogado, Ramón Ábila, Cristian Espinoza 3).

Sport Recife 1-1 (André – Mauro Bogado).

Defensor Sporting 0-0.

River Plate 1-0 (Cristian Espinoza).

Has a record of 6-5-4 as visitor in Conmebol competitions. Of the last 10 in that condition they only lost 2: Peñarol 1-0 (Copa Conmebol 1993) and Mineros 3-0 (Copa Libertadores 2015).

For the first time they will play in Colombia in Conmebol competitions.

Argentine teams have played in Colombia in Conmebol tournaments 90 times, with 22 wins, 26 draws and 42 defeats. In the last 15, they could only win two and both were won by Velez Sarsfield: Atletico Nacional 1-0 (Copa Libertadores 2012) and La Equidad 2-1 (2013 Copa Sudamericana).

Referee – Heber Lopes

It will be his 69th match in Conmebol competitions.

He debuted on September 3, 2003: Flamengo 0 - 3 Santos (Copa Sudamericana).

He has appeared 26 times in the Copa Sudamericana in all editions except the first. In the present edition he was in charge of one match: Independiente 1 - 0 Olimpia.

He has never officially called a Huracán match and on three occasions has called a Santa Fe match (all away and for the Copa Libertadores): Defensor Sporting 2-2 (2006), Estudiantes 0-1 (2006) and Olimpia 0-2 (2013).
