The South American Football Confederation announced the CONMEBOL Copa Libertadores Ranking. Performance of the last 10 years, history and local tournament champions of each country are the criteria taken into account in the new scoring system.
After the meeting of the Executive Committee of CONMEBOL, held on Monday, December 21, CONMEBOL Copa Libertadores Ranking was launched, which determines the position of the clubs for the draw for the Copa Bridgestone Libertadores 2016 edition.
The scoring system consists of three key elements:
- Performance of the last 10 years (Copa Libertadores from 2006 to 2015).
- Historical coefficient (Copa Libertadores 1960 – 2005).
- Local tournament champion from each country (50 points to the champion) (2006 – 2015).

Given this, the seedings for the draw for the 2016 Bridgestone Libertadores will be the following: River Plate (2), Boca Juniors (1), Peñarol (3), Nacional of Uruguay (5), Olimpia (7), Corinthians (9), Atlético Mineiro (13), San Lorenzo de Almagro (14). The names of the clubs are accompanied by their respective locations within the CONMEBOL Ranking.
2: Gremio (16), Emelec (18), Cerro Porteño (19), Atlético Nacional (20), Bolívar (21), Colo Colo (24), Palmeiras (31), The Strongest (33).
3: Liga de Deportiva de Quito (34), Sporting Cristal (38), Deportivo Cali (44), Táchira (49), Rosario Central (71), Melgar (108), Cobresal (123), Trujillanos (175).
4: Winners of the First Stage ties: G1, G2, G3, G4, G5, G6, as well as Mexican clubs Pumas UNAM and Deportivo Toluca.
Also the ranking will determine the groups of the first round. Clubs playing at home: Sao Paulo (11), Universidad de Chile (17), Independiente Santa Fe (22), Guaraní (29), Racing Club (39) and Caracas FC (43). First round visiting teams: Oriente Petrolero (64), Huracán (72), Independiente del Valle (78), Cesar Vallejo (152), River Plate of Uruguay (Sin Ranking) and Puebla of Mexico (not ranked).
