Peruvian defenseman Max Barrios feels “offended and hurt” by recent accusations by the Ecuadorian Football Federation (EFF) regarding a supposed false identification.

Peruvian defender Max Barrios finds himself “offended and hurt” by recent accusations by the Ecuadorian Football Federation (EFF) regarding a supposed false identification and as a result false information was presented for the U-20 South American Championship that is taking place in Mendoza.

“The boy is hurt and offended by what has happened.  The federation (Peruvian football) requested the he not play the next matches,“ said the Peruvian delegation.

Peru is playing in the hexagonal final with four spots up for grab the 2013 U-20 World Cup in Turkey which will take place this June.

The team, coached by Argentinian Daniel Ahmed, will face Paraguay on Wednesday in the second round of games.

“Max has been playing for Juan Aurich for two years.  He was not brought to the team because of the tournament he has been part of the roster for almost a year”, they added from the headquarters of the Peruvian delegation.

Team Peru is staying at a hotel in downtown Mendoza.  The Peruvian Federation announced that they were going to return him back to Lima.  As of Wednesday night he was still in Argentina.

“This player has all of the correct documents.  The decision for him coming back to Peru is to help in the investigation”, said Javier Quintana, secretary of the FPF (Peruvian Football Federation) on radio talk show Ovacion in Lima.

According to the accusation from the FEF, Barrios is Ecuadorian and of 25 years of age and must have falsified his identity.

Records from the Peruvian National Identity Register (Reniec) show that the player was born on September 15, 1995 in Sullana province.

The Ecuadorian accusation shows that Barrios would have played for club Liga de Loja up to 2010 (when he was in the second division).

The player was recognized by some of the Ecuadorian players during the game which they won 2-1 this past Wednesday in San Juan in Group B play for the U-20 South American Tournament.

Ecuador and Peru will play against each other again in the hexagonal final in the last round of play next Sunday, February 3rd.  If the points are on their side they will be on their way to the World Cup.
