Regional Stadium of Antofagasta, venue for the 2015 Copa América in Chile
The Regional Stadium of Antofagasta, Officially the Estadio Regional Calvo y Bascuñán of Antofagasta.
Alberto Calvo and Miguel Bascuñan funded the re-construction of the sports stadium that had been left unfinished in 1961.
Three years later, on October 8, 1964, the stadium was officially opened with a match between Unión Bellavista and Universidad Católica.
In 1966 the six-lane athletic track of ash (or slag) was enabled. Since 2006 the stadium is undergoing refurbishment for the installation of an eight-lane athletic track.
The stadium was co-host of the 1987 Youth World Cup.
The Chilean government has invested $8.4 million for its technical renovation to meet the quality standards of FIFA. It will be a venue for the 2015 Copa America and the FIFA U-17 World Cup.
