U-20 women's World Cup: Brazil debuts against China
Brazil's Under 20 team will debut on Tuesday against China in the city of Edmonton starting at 8:00 pm (local time).
The Brazilian team has participated in every edition of the FIFA U-20 Women's World Cup and has almost always had good campaigns. In 2002, 2004 and 2006 the Brazilian Girls got two fourth place finishes and a third place, respectively. In 2008 the team was measured against Germany in the second round. The European team, which eventually won bronze, prevailed over Brazil with a 3-2 win. In 2010 Brazil did not get past the first phase, starting with a 1-0 loss to Korea and a 1-1 draw with Sweden. The 4-1 win over New Zealand in the last game was not enough to avoid elimination. In the last event, held in Japan in 2012, the South Americans again lost in the playoffs.
Brazil traveled to Canada as South American champions for the sixth time. The Seleção defeated Paraguay 2-0 in the final. The Brazilian's finished the competition undefeated with six wins and a draw.
The Chinese have been runners-up in the U-20 Women's World Cup twice, in Thailand-2004 and in Russia-2006.
