Atletico Mineiro is moving on to the Round of 16 as winner of Group 5 after a 4-0 mugging of Melgar. The other club that has qualified to the next stage is Ecuador's Independiente del Valle.

The first goal for Atletico was scored by Thiago within the first minute of play. Robinho headed in the second six minutes later. Soon after, Lucas Pratto made it 3-0 off a penalty shot in the 16th. Carlos made the final score 4-0 in the 68th minute.

At the same time, Colo Colo and Independiente del Valle drew 0-0 in Santiago, so Group 5 closes with Atletico Mineiro the leader with 13 points, followed by Ecuador with 11. Colo Colo is next with 9 points and Melgar leaves the tournament with 0 points.
