«On Monday we will present the young 17 year old person who threw the flare», informed Ricardo Cabral to Sao Paulo newspaper Folha. Mr. Cabral is the lawyer who represents Gavioes da Fiel, the principal fan club of Corinthians.
Twelve Corinthians fans are in a jail in Bolivia being accused of throwing the flare that caused the death of young Bolivian Kevin Espada (14 years old). The incident took place Wednesday in a Copa Libertadores match against Bolivian club San José
According to Gavioes the young man who really lit the flare arrived Saturday in Brazil, explained the lawyer. «He wanted to present himself in Bolivia but was scared (..) we were awaiting his arrival in Brazil in order to present him», he said.
The lawyer says that it was an accident and affirmed that a «second video» reported by the Bolivian press «leaves no doubt that the youth threw the flare».
Among those detained in Bolivia is Tadeu Macedo de Andrade (30 years old), one of the main directors of Gavioes da Fiel, reported Folha.
CONMEBOL restricted Corinthians to play without its fans in the Libertadores. In Brazil it was speculated that Corinthians could leave the tournament in protest.
In a statement released by the sports daily Lance, President Mário Gobbi ruled that out.
