Football, as throughout South America, projected an altruistic change in the Republic of Colombia. Citizens, regardless of social class, found in football the broad, generous path of tolerance and solidarity. The national team got its first star by winning the 2001 Copa América.
At the club level, Atlético Nacional and Once Caldas have been champions of America. With the U-20 World Cup in 2011, Colombia gave the world a shining example of their organizational capacity.
