Independiente del Valle of Ecuador qualified for the group stage of the Copa Libertadores on Wednesday by goal difference against Guarani of Paraguay. The match was held in the Defensores del Chaco stadium in Asuncion before some 5,000 spectators.
Guarani won 2-1 but in the first leg, the 'Rayados del Valle' won 1-0.
Marcelo Palau scored the first goal 61 minutes in, José Angulo equalized (76) and Uruguayan Hernan Lopez headed in shortly after (80).
Lopez himself had classification at his boots in injury time but his penalty shot went into the clouds (90+5).
Thus the Ecuadorians will be in Group 5 with Atletico Mineiro of Brazil, Colo Colo of Chile and Peru's Melgar.
