Uruguayan Luis Ubiña, former champion of América and intercontinental with Nacional, died Wednesday at age 73, local media reported.
The ex-defenseman, who was captain of the Uruguayan national team, was instrumental in Uruguay’s fourth place finish at the World Cup in Mexico in 1970.
With Nacional he was champion in Uruguay in 1969, 1970, 1971 and 1972. He won the Copa Libertadores in 1971 and the Copa Intercontinental the same year.
He also played for the two clubs in his neighborhood, Cerro and Rampla Juniors. After retiring he worked at the Nacional sports complex.
