CONCACAF, CONMEBOL, and U.S. Soccer confirm the United States as the host of the Copa América Centennial

Asunción, October 23, 2015 – CONCACAF, CONMEBOL, and U.S. Soccer announced today an agreement to proceed with plans to hold the Copa America Centennial in the United States during the summer of 2016.

Asunción, October 23, 2015 – The Confederation of North, Central American and Caribbean Association Football (CONCACAF, for its acronym in English), the South American Football Confederation (CONMEBOL), and the United States Soccer Federation (US Soccer) today announced an agreement to proceed with plans to hold the Copa America Centennial in the United States during the summer of 2016. The agreement is the result of extensive work between the confederations, US Soccer and broadcasters and media associated with the tournament to implement a strengthened governance structure for management and implementation of this historic event.

In a joint statement, CONCACAF and CONMEBOL said: "We are extremely happy for our fans, our teams and our partners, for having found a way of celebrating the Copa America Centennial in the United States under a management structure of operations and finance that is something brand new for the tournament. Improved governance will bring greater accountability and transparency to the event, so as to fulfill a dual purpose – celebrate the 100 year history of the Copa America and provide a unique show for the fans in the CONCACAF and CONMEBOL regions."

All parties involved in the Copa America Centennial agreed to form a new Executive Committee, composed of two representatives of CONMEBOL, two representatives from CONCACAF, and one representative of US Soccer, to manage operations and finances of the tournament day to day. This Committee will provide greater financial transparency between the Confederations and U.S. Soccer, which is the local organizing committee, in relation with the funds raised, including ticket sales, broadcasting and sponsorship.

As part of the new governance structure of the tournament, CONCACAF and CONMEBOL announced recently that the confederations recovered their broadcasting rights and sponsorship of the event, after the termination of the contracts with Datisa SA. The confederations will issue in the coming days a joint request for proposals (RFP, for its acronym in English) to ensure transparency and accountability in the selection of new partners for marketing rights.

CONCACAF, CONMEBOL and U.S. Soccer will begin immediately the selection of the venues for the tournament and will plan operational aspects of the event. Fans interested in receiving information about tickets in the future may sign up here.
