Nílton De Sordi was born on December 3, 1931, in Piracicaba, where he started his career at club XV de Novembro. He moved to São Paulo, the club where he excelled and became an idol.
De Sordi lost only one match, a friendly against Italy, of the 25 he played wearing the Brazilian National Team jersey. In total he won17 matches with 7 draws. The defender did not play in the final against Sweden in the 1958 World Cup due to a muscle injury, being replaced by Djalma Santos, who also left us last July.
The player, who died due to multiple organ failure, is survived by his wife Celina, three children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.
The president of the Brazilian football Confederation, Marin, was clearly moved by the sad news: “De Sordi was part of one of the best teams of São Paulo, who brought much joy to their fans. Like the 1957 champion São Paulo club that had Poy, De Sordi, Mauro, Vitor, Dino and Riberto, Maurinho, Amauri, Gino, Zizinho and Canhoteiro – a super team, the pride of all são–paulino.”
